Our Certifications

  • Dr. Douglas Gordon is certified by the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners (NRCME) to perform physical examinations for intrastate and interstate commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers.

The NRCME is a new program in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) that requires Medical Examiners (MEs) to be trained and tested in FMCSA physical qualification standards.

  • It is mandated by federal guidelines that all commercial drivers pass the DOT physical exam. The goal of this exam is to check whether an applicant is fit enough to drive safely at the present time as well as in the foreseeable future. 2-year certification is granted to the commercial driver who successfully completes the exam with no significant health issues.

  • Passing the CDL/DOT physical will require:

    • Need to have at least 20/40 vision in each eye as well as both combined. Vision correction devices such as glasses or contacts are permitted.
    • Must be able to perceive a forced whisper at a minimum of 5 feet away.
    • Maximum allowable blood pressure for a 2-year certification is 139/89. 1-year certification is allowed if either number is above that, but only if it is your 1st time while being examined.
    • Need to be able to distinguish colors found on traffic signals.
    • No indication of a hernia found by palpation over the groin and lower abdomen.
